Upcoming Trials

Most people recognize that there are two justice systems in America. One that is more lenient or forgiving if you are white, or better rich and white, and the other unfair and punitive if you are black, or worse, black and poor.

The only surprising part about the Texas realtor and Jan 6 insurrectionist that tweeted: “Sorry I have blonde hair white skin a great job a great future and I’m not going to jail… I did nothing wrong.“ is that she will actually go to jail for 60 days rather than getting probation.

In the next months though there are some trials and rulings that I think will highlight the systemic unfairness of the justice system:

The Arbery Trial in which three white men are accused of murdering an unarmed black jogger in Georgia. The jury comprising eleven white panelists and one black woman after the defense struck down almost all black jurors from the pool.

UPDATE All found guilty even with this all white (bar one) jury.

The Rittenhouse Trial in which 18 year old Kyle is accused of murdering two protesters after traveling across state lines armed with an AR15. The judge in that trial has already banned the prosecution from referring to the deceased as “victims”.

UPDATE Not guilty. Not surprising as the Wisconsin self defence laws are very broad making it challenging for the prosecution. The judge was not impartial either.

The permission this gives right wing gun nuts to unleash violence will be felt. Many are itching to use their guns.

  • The Mississippi Abortion in which a supreme court that has been stacked by far right ideologues, will hear a case that may overturn Roe v Wade.

I’m not going to make predictions on which way these go but I don’t think justice and constitutional rights are going fair well.
