The Democratic Party
There is nothing in the Democratic Party platform that excites me. Being from lefty Scotland I describe myself as a Democratic Socialist. I’m far to the left of most Americans. The public figure most close to my positions is Bernie Sanders.
I voted Democratic and for Kamala not because the party offered platforms or policies I believe in or will benefit me, but because the alternative was much worse and dangerous. It seems many people stayed home or could not bring themselves to make the same decision for any number of reasons. These include what is happening in Gaza, belief in what ever anti-woke/anti-trans BS is being sold on the other side, or the reality that unless you are in swing state your vote for President doesn’t really matter.
The Democratic Party is little more than Republican-light and nothing says this more than the vote to pick another relic (he’s 72!) white male over the 35 year old Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for House Oversight Committee. AOC is by far the most eloquent Democrat and is most in tune with voters. She offers effective policies and explains them in down to earth ways. Without adopting more progressive positions the Democrats will never win anything significant in the face of the Republican machine which is highly tuned in terms of messaging.
When polled about actual policies the majority of voters support progressive positions. It’s time for change, not more of the same.
