Horology

The Apple Watch is an amazing piece of technology. The device is everywhere, on the wrists of what feels like almost everyone. Faced with its ubiquity and my overall boredom with its appearance I decided I needed some retail therapy and a new watch. The Apple watch is now consigned to a workout companion only.

Figure 1: Acutron DNA

Hopefully this isn’t the start of a dangerous and expensive collector habit but I spent more than ten hours watching YouTube videos on watches and horology. I learned a lot about what can be an obsession. The finest and rarest watches sell for millions, far beyond the means of anyone but the top 0.1%. Dangerously I have a short list of watches from Seiko’s to micro-brands like Glasgow based anOrdain now. I wanted something that was fairly unique, stylish, and spoke to my personality and chose the Accutron DNA which is now its own brand separate from Bulova.

There are a few things about this watch that made it resonate with me. The innovative and first of its kind electrostatic power. The history of Accutron as a watch, and the stylish design, the only real complications being visual with the electrostatic motors being visible and moving. I’ve been loving having something very different on my wrist.
